About WBJEE
WBJEE-2026 is the common entrance examination of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board for undergraduate courses in engineering, technology, pharmacy and architecture in universities and institutes in West Bengal for the 2026-27 session. The bulletin describes it as one OMR examination in two papers. The schedule printed for 24 May 2026 is tentative: Paper I (Mathematics) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Paper II (Physics and Chemistry) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
A candidate who sits both papers is given a General Merit Rank from the total of Paper I and Paper II, and a Pharmacy Merit Rank from Paper II alone. The General Merit Rank is used for engineering, technology and architecture courses, and for the pharmacy course at Jadavpur University. The Pharmacy Merit Rank is used for other pharmacy courses, including Pharm. D. A candidate who sits only Paper II can receive only a Pharmacy Merit Rank and is considered for pharmacy courses other than at Jadavpur University. A candidate who sits only Paper I receives no rank.
Every question is a multiple-choice question with four options. Each subject has three categories. In Mathematics there are 50 Category-1 questions, 15 Category-2 questions and 10 Category-3 questions: 75 questions and 100 marks. Physics has 30, 5 and 5, and Chemistry has 30, 5 and 5: 40 questions and 50 marks in each. The two papers together are 155 questions and 200 marks.
Category-1 has one correct option and scores 1 mark, or −1/4 if the response is wrong or if more than one option is marked. Category-2 has one correct option and scores 2 marks, or −1/2 if the response is wrong or if more than one option is marked. Category-3 has one or more correct options: marking every correct option and no incorrect option scores 2; a selection that includes any incorrect option scores 0; a selection of only some of the correct options scores 2 times the number marked divided by the number that are correct. A blank scores 0 in every category. Answers are darkened on an OMR sheet with the blue or black ballpoint pen supplied by the Board, and a response cannot be changed on that sheet.
Ranks are in descending order of marks. Ties for the General Merit Rank are broken by less negative marks across the three subjects, then by more positive marks in stated pairs of subjects, then by the two-mark questions, and finally by an earlier date of birth. The Pharmacy Merit Rank has its own tie-break, starting with less negative marks in Physics and Chemistry together. The Board sets a cut-off rank or cut-off score for counselling; the bulletin does not print that cut-off. Many seats also require West Bengal domicile. A candidate with a benchmark disability may be allowed twenty minutes of extra time per hour of the paper, and a scribe, after a written application to the Board.
